Laura Berger is an artist based in Chicago. Centred around themes of interdependence and self-understanding, her images focus on figurative archetypes, intuitive colour palettes and dreamlike minimalistic environments.
Initially approaching painting as a therapeutic practice, she draws her inspiration from rituals, symbols, nature, dreams, and our quest for self-development and freedom.
About the work, Berger states: "I'm interested in our search for a sense of belonging and meaning, and the way that pursuit interacts with our existential concerns within the larger world. I like to use painting as a way to explore questions that have no concrete answers - ideas which exist on a more spiritual or emotional plane. Much of my focus as been on exploring alternate notions of family and connection - through our ties to the global community, to our personal histories, to nature and to the unknown. The figures in my work are meant to represent everyone, and myself, with external identifiers of race and age removed. Sort of a drilling down to the more pure level of what makes us human and a representation on that soul level of where we're all the same and equal."
Laura's work has been exhibited in numerous galleries across the US and internationally, including at 'Soft Bound', Eve Leibe, London, UK; 'Night Fruit', Hashimoto Contemporary, New York, US and 'The Sun Is Between Us', Andenken Gallery, Amsterdam, Netherlands, among others.
