J. Carino is a Riverside, California-based figurative artist working in a variety of mixed-media. Influenced by many decorative arts, his paintings and drawings explore ideas of queerness, identity, sensuality, and nature through richly patterned, coloured, and layered figures and flora.

His work depicts monumental nude, queer figures in landscapes that are both idyllic and tinged with danger. Wrestling with ideas of traditional fertility and queer intimacy, J. Carino explores how the creation of our sense of self is connected with the natural world.

J. Carino graduated from Parsons: The New School in 2011. His work has been exhibited internationally, including at Beers London, UK (2022); Auxier/Kline, NY, USA (2021); Fluffy Crimes, Chicago, IL, USA (2021) and McCully & Crane Gallery, Rye, UK (2019).
